Fulvia 1.3S wins 25th Monte Carlo Historique

The Swiss entered 1970 Lancia Fulvia 1300S crewed by Claudio Enz/Cristina Seeberger maintained their hard-fought lead to win the 25th Monte Carlo Historique rally organised by the local Automobile Club de Monaco. When the fat lady finally sang just 40 penalty points separated the winners from second placed Ilya Kashin/Boris Kostyrko in a 1982 Volkswagen Scirocco and Giovanni Ghiesa/Tiziana Ghiesa driving a 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia T1600 further back in third.

The evergreen French rally legend Bruno Saby finished fourth in a 1970 2.3S Ford Capri and best British crew was the well-driven 1968 Escort Mk1 twin cam of versatile historic racer Andy Wolfe and Simon Russel in a commendable 37th position overall. There were 232 finishers out of 277 starters on a largely dry rally, including the two ungainly 1963 4.7 litre Ford Falcon Sprints entered as part of the IRDC team driven by Messrs Lusardi and Sinclair.

The IRDC entered team were 16th out of 20 teams finishing and the team prize was won by the German Rallye Drivers. Team Volga was a notable 9th in that only 40% of the cars in the team were Volga's!
