Porsche Win 2022 Monte Carlo Historique

After 5 days intense competition on the uncompromising ice and snowbound roads of the Alps Maritime, the 203 survivors are now relaxing in Monaco, swapping tales and planning return trips to their various home countries, albeit some driving ailing cars!

First place in this truly international rally was taken by the aristocratically named Belgian crew of Antoine Cornet De Ways Ruart co-driven by Phillipe of the same aristocratic surname, in a 2-litre Porsche 911 of 1965 vintage. Second was the 1973 2.4 litre Porsche 911 of Spanish crew Alvaro Ochagavias and Manuel Macho Gomez and third taken by the Italian duo of Massimo Canella and Vittorio Berzero in a diminutive Renault 12 Gordini.

The first union flags showing on the results sheet are in 85th position alongside the familiar red Lancia Fulvia 1600HF of perennial British Monte competitors Steve and brother Tony Graham, followed in 94th by the 1300cc Fulvia of fellow rally regulars Rick Pearson and Stuart Pringle. The well-rallied ex works Triumph 2000 of Peter Barker and Ian Wright was the third British crew home in 130th position.

The IRDC team of five cars comprising of Steve Graham and Rick Pearson Lancias', Richard & Ian Malpass in a Lotus Cortina MkII, David & Alison Ring in a Datsun 240Z and John Wynn and Kirsten Hegel's 1969 MGB, finished 20th team from the 24 international rally teams that finished the event.
