Toyota Considering WRC Return in 2017

Toyota, the largest global volume car manufacturer is currently considering a return to the World Rally Championship so reliable sources in the company's Tokyo head office have stated.

The speculation in Japan is that early in the new year, Toyota Motorsport GmbH is likely to confirm a WRC programme for 2017 and intends to intensify the testing of the Yaris WRC that it has been running this season, including venturing further north into Scandinavia for a snow testing and evaluation however, the company has still made no firm decision over precisely what Toyota model it will run and a Corolla is also thought to be a possibility depending on the regulations.

Toyota last fielded a works team in the WRC in 1999 and throughout 2014, has intimated at a return to rallying's premier championship, stating that rallying remains at the heart of the company with a genuine wish to return.
